In Indian socio-economy cottage industry occupies an important place, because of its employment potential and its contribution to total industrial output and exports. Within the scope of cottage industry, female workers’ participation is remarkable. Women empowerment refers to increasing economical, social, political and educational strength of an entity or entities. Most women across India rely on the cottage industry sector for an income. If women were empowered to do more and be more, the possibility for socio-economic growth would have become apparent. In addition female participation in counsels, groups, and cottage industry seems to increase efficiency. Govt. of India and state govt. have taken a number of steps to promote women empowerment with cottage industry sector. A large number of home -based production organizations are operated by significant number of female artisans. A majority of the women were involved in this unorganized sector because of economic backwardness. Cottage industry works have now become a means to maintain quite a moderate level of livelihood to the poor female workers. But some cottage industry works serve some goal to achieve women empowerment among distressed rural and semi-urban families. Working women are also connected with SGHs to enhance their livelihood.
